Building Research Establishment Environment Assessment Method, or BREEAM, was first published in 1990 by the Building Research Establishment (BRE), and is the world’s longest established method of assessing, rating and certifying the sustainability of buildings.
It recognises a number of lifecycle stages such as New Construction, refurbishment and In-Use. Since its launch, there has been almost 2,260,100 building registered for assessment, with 556,600 gaining a BREEAM certificate globally. Recently, Metalline supplied a range of high-quality products, including insulated panels, rainscreen cladding, metal pressings and bespoke fabrication to the Sire Ben Ainslie Racing – Americas Cup team base in Portsmouth. The new building has received a BREEAM excellent rating and is home to the team’s headquarters for design, training and boat building. There is also a public visitor centre and VIP hospitality. Metalline’s curved and flat Ultima insulated panels in a natural silver anodised finish are featured over 400 sqm of the 74000 sq ft building. Using BREEAM Standards helps give reassurance that the most effective environmental practices are being applied to a building’s initial design, ensuring that an organisation is indicating progression towards their environmental intentions. Many architects use the BREEAM Standards as a device to assist in reducing the building’s running costs whilst improving working and living environments.
