When you require a risk assessment, knowing the right course of action to take can be difficult. A risk assessment is something that needs to be done properly, and failure to properly carry out your risk assessment could lead to huge fines!

Walker Health and Safety Services have outlined 5 tips that you should consider when undertaking risk assessments. With any risk assessment you must take your time and be effective. You can’t afford not to!

  1. Identify the work related hazards – This includes assessing the risk from machinery, vehicles, substances and the environment!
  2. Who and what can be harmed? – Is the public at risk? Contractors? Your Employees? Find out!
  3. Prioritise – Which hazard is the most likely to occur? Fix that one first!
  4. Reduce or Remove as many hazards as you can! This could include providing safety equipment or altering how you operate.
  5. Check your controls are suitable and sufficient – do they all do the job they are intended to do?

On top of this, it is important that your risk assessment is reviewed regularly, as new hazards can occur at any time! If you require assistance with your risk assessments, Walker Health and Safety Service can assist.
