- Determine when the building was constructed. Asbestos was used periodically in building materials between 1920 and 1980.
- Check for signs of disturbed materials. It’s actually harmless whilst still in building materials and it’s only when they become worn or used that the toxic chemicals become contagious.
- Decide whether not to get area tested. You’ll never know otherwise.

- Hire a contractor to do the testing.
- Prepare the area that is to be tested.
- Take time to understand the asbestos testing procedure.
- Wait for the results of testing.
Dealing with Asbestos (if found)
- Have disturbed material repaired or removed.
- Learn to live safely with materials that contain asbestos.
- Consider total removal of all asbestos containing materials.
