The government has announced a 6.2% increase, the largest increase since the National Living Wage was introduced two decades ago.
The government has confirmed that a 6.2% increase in the National Living Wage will start on 1st April 2020. The current National Living Wage of £8.21 will rise to £8.72 an hour. This increase means an extra £930 per year for 2.8 million full-time workers in the UK.
Although this applies to workers aged 25 and over, workers aged under 25 will also see an increase of between 4.6% – 6.5% depending on their age.
Chair of the Low Pay Commission, Bryan Sanderson said that the National Living Wage has an ambitious long-term intervention in the labour market. The NLW rate has increased faster than inflation and most international comparators.
