Versatility is key in college trunking specification

college trunkingColleges have to be versatile spaces, this makes the design of them a complex task. Room’s within a college may not have one particular user but rather need to be flexible to be changed from a teaching space to a practical learning area or presentation arena.

The Steam Centre is a new Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics centre at Northumberland College. Norr of Newcastle were the consultants commissioned to design the project. One specification they needed to make was specialist trunking to house electrical components throughout the building.

They turned to Screeduct as they are specialists in bespoke trunking and ducting. They manufactured 60m of special trunking for the new Steam Centre which is located on the Ashington campus. The trunking was 500mm wide by 175mm deep, manufactured all to plan from galvanized steel, with a 10mm thick mild steel chequer plate top , the tops have been galvanized, and some painted.

The unique aspect to this particular project is that all of of the trunking lids could be interchanged in any position. This trunking had a range of lid sizes 500 x 800mm, 500 x 400mm, 500 x 200mm. No matter whether the usage of the space changes the access can fit the current needs . Some of the trunking lids have also been painted in yellow to indicate cutouts for the cables to pass through.

The trunking is set to be installed in April 2017. For more information about college trunking please click here.
