Most car parks are generally safe places. Some however some have been previously known and remain as hotbeds for vandalism, theft and antisocial behaviour. The Park Mark initiative was set up in order to combat this and shed fresh light on car mark management in general.

Did you know that in the UK a quarter of car parks have achieved Park Mark award winning status? That’s 5,000 of an estimated 17,000 – 20,000 car parks across the country!

Meaning they have to be well lit, managed and most importantly pass a rigorous assessment by specially trained police assessors and which sees the car park awarded and not the organisation. This is because organizations, such as local authorities or large private companies can have many car parks, but not all of them will pass.

Active and ongoing management/security measures have to be prominent to make Park Mark car parks look & feel safer, but it’s mostly because they are safer! Accredited car parks can be found at train stations, hospitals, universities, town centres, shopping centres, leisure centres, airports, supermarkets, banks and office blocks.

The Park Mark Safer Parking Scheme is an initiative of the Associations of Chief Police Officers (ACPO/S) and is aimed at reducing both crime and the fear of crime in parking facilities.
