Aqualate Mere NNR is situated 3km to the east of Newport, at the heart of a private estate, centred on Aqualate Mere – the largest natural lake in the West Midlands.
The Wildlife can be viewed in close quarters from the bird hide which is situated at the end of a well signposted walk from the car park.
The hide gives you a truly spectacular view across the Aqualate Mere. We were lucky enough to have visited just as the sun was setting. The views at this time of the day were truly breathtaking. It is a serene haven where you can sit in utter silence and lookout over the magnificent reserve as though watching the discover channel.
This wetland reserve is managed by Natural England and covers over 210 ha. It is a must for bird watching and there are diaries within the hide to record any sightings as well as visitors pictures pinned up.
This is a must for anyone living in and around Shropshire.
